While today was not the first day of school--it was the day when we have our ice cream social for families. Students come to school and find out who their teacher will be, who is in their class as well as meet all of the supporting staff. When you work in a school there is nothing quite like the first day of school. Incoming kindergartners enter the building wide-eyed and tentative...but wonderfully curious. Older students enter with a sense of pride and confidence...this is "their turf". There was a great vibe in the halls today--students seeing other students they had not seen all summer and many hugs and stories of summer adventures for the staff. Today's image is of a new kindergartner showing his love of books to our librarian.
